Instructions

1. Play "Down by the Bay" for
the children. When the song
mentions an animal, such as
"moose," have the children
try to guess what may rhyme
with it.
2. As an extension, provide
pictures of things that rhyme
with the animals. If the
children are unable to come
up with a rhyming word,
show the pictures to the children
and they can then choose a word that rhymes.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* Rather than focusing on spelling patterns, concentrate on sound patterns. The
sillier the better. For example, Moose and "roose," even though "roose" is not
a word.
Songs
"Cluck, Cluck, Red Hen"
"Old MacDonald Had a Farm"
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Can the children identify images that rhyme with the names of the animals
mentioned in "Down by the Bay"?
* Do the children learn the song?
