Instructions

1. Encourage the children to practice jumping with their feet together, with their
feet apart, forward, backward, and sideways.
2. After a bit of practice, sing the following song with the children and joyfully
fall down at the end.
(Tune: "This Old Man")
Jumping up, jumping down,
Jumping, jumping all around.
Jumping, jumping, jumping all around.
One more jump and then FALL DOWN!!
3. Children find this is a positive way to use energy, and teachers like to use the
activity on rainy days.
More to do
Math: Using the numbers one through five, encourage the children, in turn, to
decide how many times the group should jump. With the group, jump slowly,
counting each jump until you come to the chosen number. Let each child have a
turn to decide how many times to jump.
