Instructions

1. Do this activity for any holiday, using candy or food related to the holiday.
Following are some ideas:
* Halloween: Mix up candy corn, candy pumpkins, and wrapped taffy.
* Thanksgiving: Use some type of candy that comes in different colors,
such as Skittles or jelly beans.
* Christmas: Use Christmas kisses or M&Ms.
* Valentine's Day: Use boxed Valentine hearts.
* Saint Patrick's Day: Use Lucky Charms from the Lucky Charms cereal.
2. Be sure the children wash their hands before handling the food.
3. Give each child a copy of a graph with the appropriate boxes on it.
4. Give each child the box or bag of whatever candy they are using to graph.
5. Ask them to count out how many different colors of each candy are in their
box. For example, count the pink hearts, green hearts, white hearts, and so
on.
6. The children then color in the amount on their own graph, as shown on the
next page.
7. Save the food for snack.
