Instructions

What to do
1. If possible, take children to the beach to
collect seashells. Otherwise, provide the
children with a variety of small seashells.
2. Give the children Styrofoam wreaths to
paint with tempera paints in any color
they choose.
3. When the wreaths are dry, invite the children
to glue shells all over them.
4. Help children tie a raffia ribbon into a bow
to glue at the top or bottom of the
wreath.
More to do
Blocks: Build pretend sand castles with blocks.
Dramatic play: Create a beach in the classroom by laying a blue sheet on the floor as the ocean,
and setting up a lifeguard chair. Give the children beach towels, sunglasses, and empty bottles of
sunscreen.
Science: Examine different kinds of seashells.
