Instructions

1. Use a hot glue gun to glue three or four plastic bottle caps onto each paperplate (adult only).2. Put a spoonful of different colored paint into each cap. (It's a good idea tostart with the primary colors: blue, yellow, and red.)3. Give one plate, a brush, and a piece of paper to each child. Show thechildren how to wash their brushes before changing colors (but don't beconcerned if they skip this step).4. Demonstrate how to take a small amount of one color, put it into the centerof the paper plate (the "pallet"), and then blend it with a small amount ofanother color to make a third color. Then paint on the piece of paper.5. Encourage all efforts and experiments. There is no wrong way for children todo this exploratory activity. The learning comes from exploring. Somechildren may not even apply the paint to the paper, and that's okay too!6. Repeat this activity many times over the year and watch the children's skilland knowledge increase.More to doGeneral Tips: Use these pallets when children are painting while sitting (orsprawling) on the floor. There's little chance of spilled paint, and very little paintto spill. Cover the floor with plastic tarps or shower curtains for quick and easycleanup.
