Materials

One machine screw case with 30 drawers 26 white adhesive labels black marker four small items to represent each letter of the alphabet (104 items total) one upper- and one lowercase small plastic magnetic letter foreach letter of the alphabet

Instructions

1. Obtain one machine screw case with 30 drawers (available at hardware stores).

2. Use the white adhesive labels and black marker to create A-Z labels for each drawer. Use one letter per drawer. Start at the upper left corner and work your way down the machine case going left to right. There will be four drawers leftover in the bottom of the case.

3. Place the objects that represent each letter in the appropriate drawers.

4. Put out the alphabet sorting case for free use.

5. Encourage the children to explore the sorting case. Encourage them to notice the lettered labels. Sound out the names of the objects in each drawer with them. Help them make the connection between the objects and the letter of the alphabet each one represents.

6. Keep the sorting case out for daily use. The children will enjoy playing with the small objects and trying to match them to the appropriate letter.
