Large construction paper squares
marker clear contact paper or laminate, optionalInstructions
1. Write the letters of the alphabet on large construction paper squares
(one letter per square). If possible, laminate the squares or cover them
with clear contact paper.
2. Make a hopscotch board on the floor with the squares. Use whichever
letters the children are working on or need to review. Do not set them
up in alphabetical order. You may wish to tape the squares down.
3. Call children in turn to begin the hopscotch game.
4. As you call out a letter of the alphabet, the child hops to that
letter. Give each child three to five letters to jump to, and
then call another child.
5. If the class has moved on to identifying beginning
consonant sounds, expand the activity and call out
a word beginning with one of the letters. Ask the
child to jump to the letter that starts the word.
6. If the class is working on lowercase letters, adapt the activity accordingly.
