  • Familiar items such as plastic fruit, small cars, trucks, animals, cups, plates, and paintbrushes
  • Unfamiliar items

What to do

Gather a small group of children. Blindfold one child and hand her a familiar object from a group she has previously seen displayed.

The blindfolded child tells the other children what kind of item she is feeling using descriptive words such as soft, hard, big, little, rough, and smooth.

The child removes the blindfold to see what the item is.


Provide items that are familiar but have not been previously displayed.

Provide items that are not familiar.
