What to do
Let the children select a book or puzzle to take to their individual rest area.
As they recline and look at their book or work their puzzle, they begin to slow down and relax.
Play soft music to further set the mood. Some children will not sleep but will get needed rest as they take a break from their active daily routine.
Soft words and relaxing music such as lullabies can contribute to slowing children down for quiet time.
Read stories about animals and then suggest that the children mimic an animal position to rest in.
