- eensy weensy
- construction paper
- Sing the traditional song "The Eensy Weensy Spider" with the toddlers
The eensy weensy spider went up the water spout. (pretend to climb like a spider using fingers)
Down came the rain and washed the spider out. (wiggle fingers in downward motion)
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain. (raise hands overhead)
And the eensy weensy spider went up the water spout again. (climb with finger again)
- Change the "eensy weensy" part to any of the following types of spiders.
"big" or "super huge" (sing in a loud voice and slowly)
"teeny weeny" spider (sing in a quiet voice and quickly)
"silly willy" spider (sing in a squeaky/silly voice)
"happy snappy" spider (sing quickly)
"angry" spider (sing in an angry voice)
"whining" or "crying" (sing with a whine)
- Sing about different colors using spiders cut out of construction paper. Use the paper spiders like a puppet to emphasize the color while singing the verse.
- Let older toddlers suggest what type of spider they want to sing about with the verse. Be prepared for some "hamburger spiders" or "Raggedy Ann spiders."
To do again
Look at a few pictures of spiders with the toddlers. Talk about the features of the spider and that their house is a web.
