  • Toy with a face, such as a small stuffed animal or puppet

To Do

  1. Seat the child in an infant seat, or if he sits independently, simply seat him in front of you on the floor.
  2. Have the toy call the child's name and move slowly toward the child making a funny, growling noise.
  3. When the toy reaches the child's foot say "Gotcha!"

After a few times, does the child anticipate the contact?

Does the child giggle, kick, and coo?

More Ideas

Walk your fingers up a child's arm and gently tap his chin or nose, perhaps saying, "toot, toot, toot, toot" when you tap. Invite the child to tap your nose and also "toot"then.

Emerging Skill

The child enjoys simple social interactions with an adult.
