Materials

Large outdoor area jump ropes

Instructions

1. During outdoor time, practice different ways of counting to 100.

2. Ask the children to line up and hold hands. Together, walk 100 steps, counting aloud as you do it.

3. Line up jump ropes on the ground and ask the children to jump over them 100 times.

4. Gather the children in a circle and count to 100, each child saying a number until you reach 100.

5. Ask the children to spread their hands so they can clearly see ten fingers, then use them to count by tens to 100.

6. Do the "100 Cheer" by loudly counting by tens to 100. With every count, have the children flash all ten fingers.

7. Count by ones and with each decade, have the children move their bodies different ways:* 1-10: lean forward with each number* 11-20: lean sideways with each number* 21-30: clap for each number* 31-40: stamp feet for each numberContinue in this manner until reaching 100.

8. Repeat and let the children take turns demonstrating how to move their bodies with the counting.
