Directions
This instrument can have any name that you desire. I've seen it called a Boombah, a Jangle Stick and a Rattler.
Use a broom stick or a pogo stick. Some broom sticks have springs on them and this is ideal. You can also use a child's broomstick.
Attach the noisemakers to the stick with heavy staples (with wooden broomsticks), telephone wires, rope or twine, nails or duct tape.
Noisemaker suggestions are bells, aluminum pie plates, keys, rattles, containers filled with rice or rocks, two spoons tied together and wind chimes.
Put a rubber chair cup on the end of the stick.
Take the stick with the attachments and hit it on the floor to the beat of the music. If the Hotchy Potchy does not have a rubber "foot," stomp it in a box or a wooden crate.
The sound is fun. Play it to your favorite song.
This instrument has so many possibilities. It gives children a chance to experiment with many sounds. It's a highly creative activity.
