ActivityMake a sundial with the children. Find a sunny place outside. Push the stick in the dirt so that it stands up straight. Draw a circle around the stick. Use a big rock to mark the place on thecircle where the shadow falls. Go outside and mark the new location of the shadow every couple of hours. Lead the children to understand that the shadow moves with the passing of time. Tell thechildren that people used sundials before watches and clocks were invented. Show the children a clock and call their attention to how the big hand moves around it just like the shadow moves aroundthe circle. |
