I Spy

Ready

  • This activity is a take-off on the old guessing game, "I Spy."
  • Guessing is a form of problem solving, an essential cognitive skill.

Set

  • Sit in a circle with the children.

Go

  • Say to each child in turn, "I spy with my little eye something that begins with the letter...."
  • That child guesses what the item might be (it is always best if there is more than one possible "correct" answer) and then gets up to clean or put it away.

Note: If you feel it is too much pressure for just one child to guess an item, modify the game so all the children can guess, but the child whose turn it is does the cleaning.

Another Transition Idea

  • Modify this activity by saying either: "I spy with my little eye something in the color..." or "I spy with my little eye something in a ________ shape."
